Our Story

Over 30 Years of Transforming Lofts

For over 30 years, Apex Loft Conversions has been transforming lofts across Hertfordshire, North London, and the surrounding areas. Since completing our first loft conversion in 1992, we have successfully converted hundreds of underused attic and loft spaces into fully functional bathrooms, bedrooms, and multi-functional rooms.

With more than 30 years experience in building loft conversions along with 3 generations of family involvement, we bring a depth of expertise that is genuinely rare in this industry. We are proud to be a recognised member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen and carry full public and employer's liability insurance of £10,000,000 for complete peace of mind.

We use only the highest quality materials in our roof conversions, including premium Velux roof windows and German-engineered window systems. Wherever possible, all our materials are sustainably sourced, reflecting our commitment to both excellence and the environment.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a loft conversion need planning permission?

Thankfully, planning permission is no longer needed in most cases. Since October 2008, most loft conversions fall under Permitted Development rights, as long as they stay within volume limits (40 cubic metres for terraced houses, 50 for semi-detached). We advise on this as part of your free survey.

How long will my loft conversion take?

Typically, a rear dormer conversion on a terraced property takes around 4.5 weeks to complete, and a gable-end conversion on a semi-detached will take around 5 weeks. We are extremely confident of all projected timescales because we manage every trade ourselves.

Can any loft be converted?

Nearly all lofts or attics can be converted, as long as they are not in a conservation area or breaching planning restrictions. The key factor is the height of your roof ridge, if you can stand (or nearly stand) in the centre of your loft, it can almost certainly be converted. We will confirm this on your free survey.

Do you work in winter?

Absolutely. We are busy all year round. We convert lofts in winter using a system that ensures your home is never exposed to the weather at any point during the build.

What insurances do you carry?

We carry employer's liability insurance of £10,000,000 and individual project insurance. We also offer a 10-year structural guarantee and 1-year free maintenance. We are a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen, whose own standards provide additional assurance.
